2013 in Review at Phagans
In many ways 2013 for Phagans was a year that allowed us to catch our breath. We have settled in to our new location at Clackamas Town Center, did a little remodeling of our Lloyd Center location, became even more engaged with our community, and spent the year growing the rolls of our alumni.
This year also was the 65th Anniversary of Phagans, so we spent the year honoring founder Wilma Lee Phagans Harrington with a number of events, prizes, and goody bags for customers.
Among our schools’ biggest accomplishments this year was both locations passed their 6-year accreditations “without limitations”, which in our world means with flying colors! I’m very grateful and proud of our staff for helping us achieve this high honor and carry on …

How old were you when you became interested in the beauty industry?

I enjoyed interacting with all of the different people and helping the people in my community.
Where did you work after beauty school?
I worked in an Aveda Day Spa for a year and a half and then I had a child. I did …

Nine Tips for a Terrific Waxing Experience
“You’re going to do what? There?”
Let’s face it. Waxing, especially the first time, can be a little frightening.
The truth is that in addition to the obvious result of smooth sexy skin all summer long, waxing has other benefits. Hair in the armpits and bikini region trap natural oils that can produce unwanted odor, especially during the warmer summer months. Waxing eliminates the hair and can therefore reduce odor. Also, regular waxing changes the texture of hair and thins the follicle, making future waxing less painful.
Once you’ve wrapped your head around the process of having your hair removed from the root using hot wax, popsicle sticks, and cloth strips, the next steps to smooth summer beauty are as easy as 1-2-3. Read on for tips …
Phagans 65th Anniversary: Hairstyles of the 1940s
The Phagans name has always been associated with style and cutting edge fashions. After 65 years of training stylists, we thought it would be fun to take a look back at the hair styles that were popular when Phagans was in its infancy.
1940s hairstyles for women were the epitome of femininity. Their round, soft edges contributed to the curvy, soft image of women at that time. To achieve the look, women used bobby pins to create curls and waves and also to pin up hair for additional height. Long hair and bangs were curled under to complete the smooth look.
Hats were all the rage during the forties, and women’s hairdos were constructed to accommodate the latest trends in haberdashery. Many styles were asymmetrical so …
What is color glossing?
Color glossing is a process that infuses your hair with semi-permanent color for a short period of time. The process uses less damaging ingredients than traditional color processes. It helps seal the cuticle, adding a healthy shine to the hair.
You can choose a pigmented gloss to slightly darken hair, change tonality like from ash blonde to golden brown, our tone down color or highlights that are too brassy or bright. Or if you want just added shine without altering color, you can choose a clear gloss. The gloss usually lasts 2-3 weeks.
During the month of March at Phagans, you can try a free color glossing when you get a touch up color and a weave. Make an appointment today by calling our Clackama location …
